War 2 Day 1 Box Office: Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR's Spy Thriller Rings ₹52.5 Crore in India
Bollywood's much-awaited action spy thriller War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, and Kiara Advani, made a strong impact on its opening day at the Indian box office on August 14, 2025.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film grossed approximately ₹52.5 crore across India on day one, despite facing competition from Rajinikanth's highly anticipated Tamil film, Coolie.
The movie, directed by Ayan Mukerji and produced under the Yash Raj Films banner, experienced varied occupancy rates across regions. The Chennai region led with 77.5% occupancy in Hindi screenings, followed by Hyderabad at 73.5%. Bengaluru recorded 49.5%, Lucknow 42.5%, and Kolkata 39% occupancy in Hindi shows.
In terms of language breakdown, the film's Hindi version contributed an estimated ₹29 crore net, while the Telugu dubbed version added a significant ₹23.25 crore net, riding on Jr NTR's massive fanbase. The Tamil version contributed around ₹25 lakh. This strong Telugu response was key to the overall solid single-day tally.
The first War (2019) film's Hindi version had made around ₹51 crore net on its opening day, setting a high benchmark. While War 2's Hindi numbers fell short comparatively, the strong Telugu collections helped offset the difference.
Despite a reported production budget of ₹400 crore, the film managed to exceed many initial box office expectations, which were modest due to advance booking trends predicting a ₹43 crore net opening. However, War 2 still trails behind Pathaan's record ₹55 crore opening day in Hindi circuits.
Worldwide, the film grossed around ₹79 crore on day one, including all versions, and is expected to cross ₹300 crore over its opening weekend depending on holdover collections.
Critically, War 2 received mixed to poor reviews, which may impact its longevity at the box office. Industry insiders note that sustaining collections beyond Monday will be crucial for the film to reach a ₹500 crore worldwide gross, considered a strong benchmark for success.
Overall, War 2's first day showcased a robust opening across India chiefly propelled by Jr NTR's regional pull and Hrithik Roshan's star power, setting the stage for what could be an engaging box office battle amid strong competition.
