Veteran Director Bharathiraja's Health Scare Sparks Concern Amid Film Comeback Buzz
Veteran Tamil filmmaker Bharathiraja, renowned for his realistic portrayals of rural life, is currently hospitalized in Chennai, drawing widespread attention from fans and the film industry.[2][3]
The 84-year-old director, celebrated for his debut film 16 Vayathinile in 1977, was admitted to a private hospital in T. Nagar for treatment related to dehydration and emotional trauma following his son's recent demise. Family sources confirm he is undergoing routine check-ups and preventive care, with his condition reported as stable.[2]
Recent reports indicate Bharathiraja was shifted to another facility for further treatment after initial care. Poet Vairamuthu, who visited him, provided an update assuring the public of his improving health.[2][4]
Despite health challenges, Bharathiraja plans to join director Susienthiran's upcoming film Valli Mayil, starring Vijay Antony and Faria Abdullah, by month's end. The second schedule is shooting in Dindigul, Madurai, and Tenkasi.[1]
His recent role in Thiru Manickam, a Tamil drama starring Samuthirakani, released theatrically on December 27, 2024, and is set for OTT premiere on Zee5 on January 24, 2025, after receiving mixed reviews.[5]
Bharathiraja, often called Iyakkunar Imayam, has a legacy of award-winning films and occasional controversies, including past disputes with film councils where he formed the Tamil Film Active Producers Association.[2][3]
Fans across India are sending prayers for his swift recovery as he remains a pivotal figure in Tamil cinema.[2]
