Sun Pharma Welcomes Kirti Ganorkar as New Managing Director in Historic Leadership Shift

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited, India's largest pharmaceutical company, has announced a significant leadership transition with the appointment of Kirti Ganorkar as its new Managing Director. This change is set to take effect on September 1, 2025, marking a strategic move to reinforce the company's long-term growth trajectory.

Kirti Ganorkar, who joined Sun Pharma in 1996, will succeed Dilip Shanghvi, the company's founder. Shanghvi will transition to the role of Executive Chairman, focusing on guiding the company's long-term strategy and specialty portfolio. Ganorkar's appointment follows his successful leadership of Sun Pharma's India business since June 2019, where he drove consistent growth and expanded market share.

Ganorkar, a chemical engineer and MBA holder, has a diverse background in business development, marketing, mergers and acquisitions, IP and litigation, and new product introductions. He has played a key role in Sun Pharma's foray into specialty products and has led the company's expansion into new markets, including Japan and preparations for entering Europe.

This leadership change reflects Sun Pharma's confidence in its internal talent pool and its commitment to governance continuity and innovation. The transition also underscores a strategic shift aligned with global expansion and growth.
