Seven Legends Inducted into ICC Hall of Fame in Star-Studded London Ceremony
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially added seven of cricket’s most iconic players to its prestigious Hall of Fame in a grand ceremony held at London’s historic Abbey Road Studios on June 9, 2025. This year’s event was marked by the induction of five male and two female cricketers, expanding the Hall of Fame roster to 122 celebrated names.
The men’s list features some of the most influential figures in the modern game: India’s legendary former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, South Africa’s prolific batsman Hashim Amla and former skipper Graeme Smith, Australia’s explosive opener Matthew Hayden, and New Zealand’s versatile all-rounder Daniel Vettori. On the women’s side, England’s wicketkeeper-batter Sarah Taylor and Pakistan’s trailblazing captain Sana Mir were honored for their contributions to women’s cricket.
The ICC Hall of Fame, launched in 2009 as part of the ICC’s centenary celebrations, recognizes players who have left a lasting impact on the sport. Selection is made by a distinguished panel of existing Hall of Famers, ICC officials, and media experts, with each inductee receiving a commemorative cap as a symbol of their enduring legacy. The process emphasizes merit and outstanding achievements, ensuring only the most deserving players are recognized.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah highlighted the significance of the honor, stating, “Inducting these legends is our tribute to those who have profoundly influenced the game. The selection is based solely on merit and their outstanding achievements.”
The event, part of the ‘A Day with the Legends’ celebration, was broadcast live and available for Indian audiences on JioHotstar. Special segments included insights from South African captain Temba Bavuma and Australian skipper Pat Cummins, who shared their thoughts ahead of the World Test Championship Final, further boosting the cricket season’s excitement.
The latest induction ceremony not only honors past achievements but also inspires a new generation of cricketers, reinforcing the spirit and legacy of the gentlemen’s game.
