Rising Star: Lhuan-dre Pretorius Makes History with Record-Breaking Test Debut
Lhuan-dre Pretorius, a 19-year-old South African cricketer, has captured the spotlight by becoming the youngest player in Test history to score 150 on debut. This remarkable achievement was realized during the first Test match between South Africa and Zimbabwe, held at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on June 28, 2025.
Pretorius, who is part of the Rajasthan Royals team in the IPL 2025, exhibited exceptional skill by reaching his maiden century in just 113 balls. He ultimately scored 153 runs off 160 balls, including 11 fours and four sixes, at an impressive strike rate of 95.62.
By achieving this milestone at 19 years and 93 days, Pretorius surpassed the record previously held by Pakistan's Javed Miandad, who was 19 years and 119 days old when he scored 163 against New Zealand in 1976. Additionally, Pretorius became the youngest South African to score a Test century, breaking a record that had stood since Graeme Pollock achieved it in 1964.
The match also saw Corbin Bosch score an unbeaten maiden century, helping South Africa reach a total of 418 for 9. However, the game was not without controversy, as Zimbabwe players expressed frustration over a snick that went unpunished, with some calling for Pretorius to have walked.
Pretorius's phenomenal debut has not only highlighted his potential but also marked a significant moment in Test cricket history, making him a name to watch in the world of cricket.
