PM-Kisan 20th Instalment Released: ₹20,500 Crore Transferred to 9.7 Crore Farmers
On August 2, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially released the 20th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme from Varanasi, marking a significant milestone in government support for farmers across India.
The 20th instalment involves the direct transfer of ₹20,500 crore into the bank accounts of approximately 9.7 crore eligible small and marginal farmers through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). This ongoing flagship initiative provides annual financial assistance of ₹6,000 per eligible farmer family, disbursed in three equal instalments of ₹2,000 every four months.
Since the inception of PM-Kisan in 2019, a total of ₹3.69 lakh crore has been transferred over 19 instalments, reinforcing the government's commitment to enhancing the welfare of farmers by ensuring timely monetary support.
Eligibility criteria specify that the scheme benefits landholding farmer families, which include the husband, wife, and minor children owning cultivable land as per state or Union Territory land records. However, certain categories of farmers are excluded based on specific guidelines.
In recent updates, the Agriculture Ministry has issued advisories warning farmers against fake messages and misinformation circulating on social media related to PM-Kisan. To receive payments, farmers are required to complete mandatory e-KYC verification, which can be conducted via OTP on the PM-Kisan portal or biometrically at Common Service Centres (CSCs).
Farmers can check their beneficiary status by visiting the official PM-Kisan website and entering their Aadhaar or bank account details. The scheme remains a crucial source of financial aid helping millions of farmers nationwide manage agricultural costs and sustain their livelihoods.
