Hardik Pandya Set for Competitive Comeback Ahead of T20I Series Against South Africa
Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya is poised to make a competitive return to cricket earlier than expected, marking a significant boost for IndiaтАЩs white-ball squad ahead of the upcoming international fixtures.
After sustaining a quadriceps injury during the 2025 Asia Cup in a Super-Four match against Sri Lanka, where he opened the bowling before retiring hurt, Pandya has undergone a rigorous rehab regime at the BCCIтАЩs Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru. Sources revealed that from October 21 to November 30, Pandya remained at the COE, completing his full rehabilitation and meeting the 'Return To Play' protocols to regain full fitness.
Having been given the all-clear to bat and bowl in T20 internationals, Pandya resumed playing domestic cricket by linking up with the Baroda team. He is scheduled to participate in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy games against Gujarat on December 4 and potentially against Haryana on December 6. This phase will serve as a practical fitness and workload test before he rejoins the national side.
The national team management is optimistic about Pandya's inclusion in the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa starting December 9, which would mark his much-anticipated return to international cricket. This comeback is especially significant as Pandya missed the recent white-ball series in Australia due to injury concerns.
Cricket analysts view his return as a pivotal boost for India's all-round capabilities, given Pandya's proven impact in both batting and bowling departments, especially in T20 formats. His leadership experience, including captaining teams in the IPL and domestic cricket, adds value beyond his on-field performances.
Alongside Pandya, fellow team member Shubman Gill is undergoing fitness evaluations at the COE to potentially return for the South Africa T20I series, signifying India's intent to field a strong and fit squad for their home fixtures.
Off the field, Hardik Pandya's profile remains prominent not just for his cricketing prowess but also for his public presence and endorsements, maintaining his status as one of the contemporary faces of Indian cricket.
