Delhi Police Foil Deadly Plot to Kill Comedian Munawar Faruqui; Two Gangsters Arrested

In a significant breakthrough, Delhi Police have arrested two gangsters linked with a notorious crime syndicate who were allegedly planning to assassinate stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui. The suspects were apprehended following a gunfight on the Jaitpur-Kalindi Kunj Road in South East Delhi on October 1, 2025.

The accused, identified as Rahul (29) from Panipat and Sahil (37) from Bhiwani, Haryana, are members of the Rohit Godara-Goldy Brar-Virender Charan gang. According to police, they were operating under instructions from Rohit Godara, who is currently abroad and closely associated with Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar. Virender Charan, another key figure in the gang currently absconding, was also linked to the plot.

Officials revealed that the two gangsters had been tracking Munawar Faruqui for months, including during his appearances in Mumbai and Bengaluru. A prior assassination attempt took place in Bengaluru but failed when Faruqui switched vehicles to evade them. It was further disclosed that the gang targeted Faruqui due to his jokes on Hindu gods, which had sparked controversies and ire among certain groups.

The arrest unfolded when police received credible intelligence about the movement of the suspects in the Jaitpur-Kalindi Kunj area. A special cell team laid a trap and intercepted Rahul and Sahil while riding a motorcycle. Upon being asked to stop, the gangsters opened fire, prompting police to retaliate, injuring them in their legs before taking them into custody. The suspects were subsequently hospitalized for medical treatment.

This operation underscores the effectiveness of Delhi Police’s counter-intelligence efforts in thwarting a potentially deadly attack on a prominent personality. Munawar Faruqui, who recently gained widespread popularity after winning Bigg Boss 2024 and commanding over 14 million Instagram followers, narrowly escaped harm thanks to the intervention.

Authorities continue to investigate the conspiracy's deeper links and the role of the foreign-based gang leaders involved. Both Rahul and Sahil have been charged under relevant sections of Indian law, and their arrest sends a strong message against such criminal intimidation tactics aimed at stifling freedom of expression.
