TV Actor Ashish Kapoor Arrested on Rape Charges: An Ongoing Investigation

Television actor Ashish Kapoor, known for his roles in popular shows such as 'Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai' and 'Dekha Ek Khwaab,' was arrested in Pune by Delhi Police on Wednesday over allegations of rape.

The complainant, a woman who met Kapoor via social media, accused him of sexually assaulting her inside a washroom during a house party held in Delhi in the second week of August 2025. The initial First Information Report (FIR) filed on August 11 named Kapoor, his friend who organized the party, the friend’s wife, and two unidentified men as alleged perpetrators. However, the complainant later revised her statement, singling out Ashish Kapoor as solely responsible for the rape while claiming that the friend’s wife physically assaulted her after the incident.

Following the complaint, police traced Kapoor’s movements from Goa to Pune, where a special team arrested him. CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts indicate that Kapoor and the complainant entered the washroom and stayed there for an extended period, sparking a confrontation outside involving other guests and the friend’s wife, who reportedly made the police call reporting the disturbance.

The case, initially classified as gang rape, is currently being reclassified as rape with an ongoing investigation focusing solely on Kapoor. Kapoor is in custody, and a detailed probe is underway to ascertain facts and gather further evidence.

Born on October 17, 1984, in Delhi, Ashish Kapoor started his career as an interior designer before shifting to acting. He debuted in 'Ssshhh...Phir Koi Hai' (2010) and later appeared in serials like 'Chand Chupa Badal Mein,' 'Saat Phere – Saloni Ka Safar,' 'Saraswatichandra,' 'Molkki – Rishton Ki Agnipariksha,' and 'Woh Apna Sa,' becoming a recognized face on Indian television.

Following his arrest, Kapoor deleted his social media accounts. The allegations and legal proceedings have caused significant attention and concern within the entertainment industry and among his fan base, who await judicial clarity on the matter.
