Rath Yatra 2025: A Vibrant Celebration of Faith and Devotion
The Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025, a vibrant and significant Hindu festival, is currently underway in Puri, Odisha. The event, which began on June 27, 2025, attracts millions of devotees from across the globe, marking a spiritual and cultural celebration of Lord Jagannath, a form of Lord Vishnu.
Security preparations have been heightened in Puri, with estimates suggesting that between 10 to 12 lakh people will gather to participate in the festivities. The Odisha police have implemented extensive crowd management strategies to ensure the safety of both attendees and visiting dignitaries, following intelligence about potential disturbances.
Beyond Puri, similar celebrations are taking place in West Bengal's Digha town, where the first Rath Yatra at the new Jagannath Temple is being conducted. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is participating in the rituals, which include the procession of the chariots carrying the idols of Lord Jagannath and his siblings.
The Rath Yatra is a nine-day festival, culminating with the Bahuda Yatra on July 4, 2025. It symbolizes the journey of Lord Jagannath from the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple, representing the Lord's journey to his aunt's home.
