PM-Kisan 20th Instalment Released: ₹20,500 Crore Disbursed to Over 9.7 Crore Farmers
On August 2, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 20th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme from Varanasi, marking another milestone in the government’s efforts to support small and marginal farmers across India.
The latest instalment involves a substantial fund transfer of ₹20,500 crore credited directly to the Aadhaar-linked bank accounts of over 9.7 crore eligible farmers via the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. Since its inception in 2019, the PM-Kisan scheme has cumulatively disbursed ₹3.69 lakh crore through 20 instalments, aiming to provide timely financial assistance and prevent farmers from falling into debt traps.
The scheme offers an annual benefit of ₹6,000 per farmer, distributed in three equal instalments of ₹2,000 every four months. This financial support helps meet the immediate requirements of agricultural households and enhances the rural economy.
Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan chaired a high-level meeting to review the disbursement process and encouraged farmers to participate in local events organized at 11 a.m. on August 2 across villages, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), agricultural universities, market yards, and PACS headquarters to listen to the Prime Minister’s address related to the scheme.
Eligible farmers are reminded that completing e-KYC is mandatory to receive benefits under the PM-Kisan scheme. They can carry out OTP-based e-KYC via the official PM-Kisan portal or biometric-based verification at nearby Common Service Centres (CSCs). The Agriculture Ministry has also cautioned beneficiaries against fake messages and misinformation circulating on social media regarding the scheme.
The PM-Kisan scheme continues to exemplify the government’s focus on digital governance and transparent, direct financial aid in empowering the agricultural sector and securing farmers’ livelihoods nationwide.
