Monsoon Alert: Heavy Rainfall Expected Across India
As the southwest monsoon advances across India, several states are bracing for heavy rainfall, bringing relief from the scorching heatwaves that have gripped the country. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts that the monsoon will cover most parts of India by June 17, 2025, with significant weather changes expected in the coming days.
States like West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar are anticipating the onset of monsoon rains between June 17 and 18. Meanwhile, regions such as Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha will experience light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds until June 20.
In western India, Konkan and Goa are particularly vulnerable to extremely heavy rainfall, exceeding 20 cm in 24 hours. Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) are under a yellow alert, with expectations of continued rainfall from June 16 to June 22.
Furthermore, IMD has issued a red alert for Malappuram and Kozhikode districts due to forecasts of extremely heavy rainfall. Strong surface winds are also expected over several southern states.
These developments come as North India experiences a significant dip in temperature, following weeks of intense heat. The monsoon's progression is expected to bring much-needed relief to residents across the country.
