Jayden Seales Shines with Three Wickets as West Indies Level ODI Series Against Pakistan

Jayden Seales dazzled with three wickets in a rain-affected match, leading West Indies to a five-wicket win over Pakistan and leveling the ODI series 1-1 at the Brian Lara Stadium.

West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales delivered a stunning performance in the second ODI against Pakistan at the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, on August 10, 2025, helping his team chase down a revised target and level the three-match series 1-1.

Seales was the standout bowler, claiming three crucial wickets for just 23 runs in his 7 overs, including two maidens, and maintaining an impressive economy rate of 3.30 runs per over. Notably, he dismissed Pakistan’s opening batsman Saim Ayub and dismissed captain Babar Azam for a duck in the same 9th over, a spell that severely disrupted Pakistan’s top order early on.

His other wicket was left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz, who fell for 5 runs. These breakthroughs left Pakistan struggling at 171 for 7 after 37 overs in a rain-hit innings. Overall, Seales now holds 25 ODI wickets, contributing significantly to West Indies’ bowling attack.

Following Seales’ fiery spell, West Indies' bowlers, including left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie and part-timer Roston Chase, applied pressure, restricting Pakistan’s scoring opportunities and wickets.

In response, West Indies were set a revised target of 181 from 35 overs under the Duckworth/Lewis/Stern method due to rain interruptions. Roston Chase anchored the innings with a composed 53 runs, narrowly missing consecutive half-centuries, while Sherfane Rutherford provided a brisk 45, both partnering well to guide West Indies to 184 for 5 with 10 balls to spare.

This victory marked West Indies’ first ODI win against Pakistan since the 2019 World Cup and elevated West Indies into ninth place in the ICC ODI rankings, securing them the final automatic qualification spot for the 2027 Cricket World Cup.

The final and deciding third ODI will determine the series winner, but Jayden Seales’ match-winning bowling spell has put West Indies in a strong position midway through the series.
