Dortmund Edge Past LOSC Lille 3-2 in Exciting Pre-season Friendly Thriller

Borussia Dortmund defeated LOSC Lille 3-2 in a thrilling pre-season friendly, with early goals and resilient defense securing the win despite a late Lille comeback.

On August 2, 2025, Borussia Dortmund secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over French Ligue 1 side LOSC Lille in their second pre-season friendly, played under sporadic summer rain in North Rhine-Westphalia. Dortmund's strong first-half performance proved decisive as they built a solid lead which Lille could only partially overcome in the second half.

The match started with intensity, with Lille's Serhou Guirassy attempting an early strike within the first 90 seconds, testing Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. However, Dortmund soon took control, dominating possession and creating multiple chances.

The breakthrough came in the 13th minute from Pascal Groß. A corner by Julian Ryerson was headed on by Rami Bensebaini and although Lille's keeper Lucas Chevalier parried the initial header, a defensive clearance error allowed Groß to tap in the rebound from close range amid a crowded box.

Dortmund continued to press, forcing Chevalier into further saves including a close-range stop from Marcel Sabitzer in the 19th minute, whose subsequent long-range effort rattled the crossbar minutes later.

Shortly before halftime, Dortmund were awarded a somewhat contentious penalty when Lille's Benjamin André made contact with Daniel Svensson's head in the box. Serhou Guirassy confidently converted the penalty to give Dortmund a 2-0 lead at the break.

The second half saw Dortmund make five substitutions, including the introduction of young talent Karim Adeyemi and Julian Brandt in attack. This tactical change led Dortmund to adopt a less aggressive pressing style, allowing Lille more possession.

Lille's Hákon Arnar Haraldsson pulled a goal back in the 66th minute, raising hopes for a comeback. However, just two minutes later, Adeyemi, set up by Boyamba, restored Dortmund's two-goal cushion. Despite a late goal from former Dortmund player Thomas Meunier in the 82nd minute, Dortmund managed to hold on to their 3-2 lead until the final whistle.

The match showcased promising contributions from Dortmund’s young squad as they prepare for a challenging season ahead. Their next pre-season fixture is scheduled against Juventus at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK next Sunday, August 10, marking the official season opening.
